I have been fishing almost sixty years having started fishing in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. After college and the service, I returned
to New York and resumed my passion for fishing. Over the ensuing
years I focused primarily on the East End, from Montauk to Orient
Point, with other adventures all over the east coast from Maine to
Virginia. My passion for the sport has taken me to some exotic
places including Alaska and Central America. I have fished with and
learned from many of the top captains and fishermen in the
Northeast.
My rod building began in 1968. There was not much information on
the craft back then and for the next ten years I learned by trial
and error. In 1978 I joined a fledgling organization of amateur and
professional rod builders. I immediately came to the realization of
how little I knew about the craft and a whole new chapter began for
me. After almost thirty years in the same organization that has
grown with members all over the world, I am still learning new
advances in materials and artistic techniques.
I live in Montauk, NY, the sportfishing capital of the Northeast,
building rods in my state-of-the art workshop as well as teaching,
speaking at fishing clubs and organizations around the country and
writing for several fishing magazines and Internet fishing websites.
You will find me at the New York Sportfishing Federation Show in
Freeport, NY in February, 2007 with
Captain Neil Faulkner, another great rod builder and personal
friend. Please stop by our booth and say hello.
